To login into Sona use your UserID (email before @, not otter id) and the password you were sent or chose (not your school password).. After the legal notice, complete a quick prescreen, and you'll see lots of studies with Sona credits beside each. You can choose any studies would you like towards earning your credits. Each professor sets how Sona credits become points in their classes, so you can ask or read syllabi for their details.
Unlike participants' experiences, using Sona as a researcher (capstone student, lab member, faculty) is much less intuitive.
Please read our researcher guide and use it as reference while setting up your study. It shares helpful tips for things that are less obvious (e.g., use color, embed images) and helps you have well-organized useful data files for your analysis. Remember when you're ready for participants, complete our Sona Research Study Checklist.
Please consider offering Sona research participation pool credit to your students. Our guide helps us use it to the fullest, but here are essentials.. You decide how Sona becomes points in your class. I recommend Sona being worth 1.5% to 2.0% of your overall grade and intro have 6 required credits, career prep have 5 required, methods & stats classes have 4 required, and most classes have 2 to 4 extra credits. Please have an alternate way to earn credits in case students prefer not to participate. I recommend starting with an easy-on-you low-key alternative, like a few page personal reflection essay or a journal article critique equal to 1 Sona credit.. You never need to interact with Sona or really do practically anything beyond letting students know. I’ll create your students’ accounts, handle issues, and during finals week I’ll send you credit reports. Please respond to our one-minute survey, even if you’re not offering any credit, so I can set up Sona just after add/drop.
