Neuroscience & BioPsychology

Understanding connections among our bodies, endocrine processes (e.g., hormones), & nervous systems (e.g., brain) and our minds.
Intuitively our mind is us - our soul - and our body merely a vessel. But stepping back, we can see our mind and body aren't so distinct.Drugs dramatically impact our nervous systems - from heroin leaving us euphoric until we're anything but, to SSRI's subtly keeping serotonin between neurons and lifting our moods. Our endocrine system hormone shifts changing our minds too, like puberty, menstrual cycles, menopause, and gender affirming hormone care. Our Psychology and Biology intertwine. What does it mean for who we are?

The Brain is wider than the Sky; For put them side by side; The one, the other will contain; With ease, and You beside; The Brain is deeper than the sea; For hold them, Blue to Blue; The one the other will absorb; As Sponges, Buckets do; The Brain is just the weight of God; For Heft them, Pound for Pound; And they will differ, if they do; As Syllable from Sound.
Emily Dickinson, The Brain is Wider than the Sky
